Canada Winter Games Registration

Attention Judo Alberta Members,

All athletes that are trying out for the CWG must complete the following registration forms along with the online CCES anti doping course:

Participant Registration Checklist

This needs completed prior to competing in the Red Deer tournament. Athletes are to bring all forms to the Red Deer tournament and given to Kelly Thornton.

Coaches and managers are required to complete the forms and anti doping course as well.

Parents and athletes must sign all forms where requested.

Elite Athlete Funding Announcement

The Judo Alberta Coaching Committee would like to congratulate the following athletes who have been granted athlete funding. Funding is based on performance and results, commitment to training, participation in National or International events and financial need.

Erin Morgan

Funding: $1200.00
Events Participated: Finland, Sweden, Quebec and Ontario Open

Darren Elcock

Funding: $1000.00
Events Participated: Finland and Estonia World Cup

Robert Edward

Funding: $500.00
Events Participated: Quebec and Ontario Open

These athletes applied for the first round of elite athlete funding for events participated in from September 2014-January 2014. The next round of funding will be announced in March 2015 for competitions and training camps participated in between January 2015-April 2015.

Athletes that have received funding this round must fill out an athlete expense claim form and hand it into Garry Yamashita to receive their funding.

Elite 8 National Championship/ Training Camp Opportunity

Judo Alberta will be arranging flight and travel for this event. Before the Elite 8 Championships there is a National Training Camp at the NTC in Montreal from January 5th-9th, 2015 and the Elite 8 Championships will take place on January 10th and 11th.

The Judo Alberta coaching staff is recommending athletes competing in the Elite 8 to attend the training camp as well. Any athletes that wish to participate in the National training camp prior to Elite 8 that did not qualify for the Elite 8 are welcome to apply to Judo Alberta coaching staff for approval to come.
Deadline for athletes wanting to compete at the elite 8 championships, National training camp or both is November 23rd, 2014. Athletes must provide a $500.00 deposit to Laurie Wiltshire by this date. Flights will be expensive January 4th so the sooner we book the better I apologize for the tight deadline.

Travel plan as follows:
NTC athletes depart Sunday January 4th, 2015 and return January 11th after competition (if you are not competing in Elite 8 you can return January 9th or the 11th Just let Laurie know by Nov. 23rd, 2014)
Athletes just going for Elite 8 will depart Friday January 9th and return January 11th after competition.

Judo Canada Doping Course Info:

*IMPORTANT NEW: In order for Judo Canada, the athletes and the support personnel to be in
compliance with the new Canadian Anti-Doping Program, all those wishing to participate in the
National Championships (coaches and athletes) must complete an on-line learning module produced
by the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport. This exercise must be completed two weeks prior to
the accreditation day (27 DEC 2014) of the event (individuals will NOT be permitted to
compete/coach if they have not completed the module 2 weeks prior to the event – (NO
EXCEPTIONS WHATSOEVER. NO REFUNDS ISSUED). The module will take approximately 90min.

Elite Athlete Funding

The Judo Alberta coaching staff has released the Elite Athlete funding application. This application is for funding for Judo Alberta/ Judo Canada events that have taken or will take place between: September 2014-December 2014 *Please note athletes attending Quebec Open/ Fall National training camp/ Ontario Open that are fighting off for Canada Winter Games will receive funding for these events from CWG funding, these athletes will not be eligible to apply for Elite athlete funding for these events due to the amount of money Judo Alberta is already giving them. If an athlete is not fighting off for CWG please feel free to apply for elite athlete funding if the athlete meets the criteria in the Elite athlete funding policy*

The elite athlete funding is for athletes in age divisions U18, U21, and Senior that our travelling out of province for tournaments or training camps at a national or international level. The Judo Alberta coaching staffs is allocating $3000.00 towards this part of the season for elite level athletes. The whole funds may or may not be completely used depending on the number of applicants and events.

Applying for this funding does not guarantee that funds will be issued to you. The coaching staff are looking for athletes that have shown dedication to their own judo training, tournament participation, and training camp participation. Also the coaching staff is looking for athletes that are planning for future goals in the sport. Please see a list of example tournaments that we will fund on the Elite athlete funding policy .

The coaching staff want the athletes to have full support from their personal coach/ head sensei/club before applying for funds.
