Alberta Winter Games Fight-Offs

Hello Judo Alberta Members,

This is just a reminder that the Alberta Winter Games Fight-Offs are taking place this Saturday December 9th, 2017.

Zones 1-3:
Hosted at the Lethbridge Judo Club (2775 28 Ave S, Lethbridge, AB T1K 7L6):
Weigh-ins from 11:00AM-12:00PM
Competition from 12:30PM-3:00PM 

Zones 4-8:
Hosted at the Tolide Judo Club (Dow Centennial Centre, 8700 84 St, Fort Saskatchewan, AB T8L 4P5):
Weigh-ins from 1:00PM-1:30PM
Competition from 2:30PM-5:00PM

 

Please note that the blue gi will be mandatory for the AWG competition however not for the fight-offs.

The AWG fight-offs and competition will follow modified U16 rules without chokes or arm locks.

All athletes must bring in the COMPLETED waiver forms to the fight-offs otherwise they will not be able to participate. Athletes and coaches/chaperones are also requested to go online and complete their registration. Online registration is open now. please note we would like to have everyone registered online prior to the fight-offs.

Please forward all completed waiver forms to Trevor Hazell (tdhazell@gmail.com) by December 9th, 2017 (Day of the fight-offs), and bring your $10.00 entry fee to the fight offs.

There will be a kata judging session on Friday January 26, 2018.  Anyone interested must register on the Judo Canada website. Please see the tournament package for details.

Elite Athlete Funding Announcement

The Judo Alberta coaching staff has released the Elite Athlete funding application.

This application is for funding for Judo Alberta/ Judo Canada events that have taken or will take place between: September 2017 to December 2017

Priority:

A) Athletes Selected by Judo Canada to participate in International Events
B) International Events recognized by Judo Canada (National Team Handbook) & Judo Canada RTC International Competitions/Tours
C) National Point Events and Training Camps
D) Special Provincial Training Camps

The elite athlete funding is for athletes in age divisions U18, U21, and Senior that are travelling out of province for tournaments or training camps at a national or international level.

The Judo Alberta coaching staff is allocating $4,000.00 towards this part of the season for elite level athletes. The whole funds may or may not be completely used depending on the number of applicants and events.

Applying for this funding does not guarantee that funds will be issued to you. The coaching staff are looking for athletes that have shown dedication to their own judo training, tournament participation, and training camp participation. Also the coaching staff are looking for athletes that are planning for future goals in the sport. Please see a list of example tournaments that we will fund on the Elite athlete funding policy.

The coaching staff do want the athletes to have full support from their personal coach/ head sensei/club before applying for funds.

Please note there is a $10.00 fee to compete in the fight offs. Once teams are confirmed, each club will be invoiced the $60.00 per athlete that actually attends the Games.
