These Fight Offs will determine who moves on to compete at the 2026 Alberta Winter Games in Grande Prairie — a highlight event for junior athletes across the province.

2025 Judo Alberta Winter Camp, Lethbridge, Alberta, December 05-07, 2025:
There will be 14 Japanese Hight School Students from Hokkaido taking part in the Winter Camp (8 male / 6 female)
Please note that the Winter Camp is a week earlier this year because of the participation of the Japanese Team – December 05-07, 2025.
There will be 3-4 Mental Health Sessions for Judo Alberta Athletes (U16-U18-U21-SR & Coache) at the Holiday Inn. We will be making groups of 25 for these sessions. We highly recommend coaches encourage all athletes to participate. (Mental Health 101)
Please note the Deadline is November 21, 2025; the deadline is extra early this year because of extra organization involved with the Japanese Team and the Mental 101 Sessions
There will be a Team Competition on Sunday, December 07, 2025, with the Japanese Team, Judo Alberta and other provincial teams. The Judo Alberta HP Coach Committee will select athletes to participate. If an athlete has been identified by the coaches we are hoping they will represent athlete in the team competition. It will be a lot of fun. We will need to have volunteers for score keeping, draws, etc.
Calling all young judoka — it’s time to step onto the mat! The 2025 Florence Senda Junior Judo Tournament is set to bring together competitors from U10, U12 and U14 divisions for a high-energy event that celebrates skill, sportsmanship and the spirit of judo.

Judo Alberta is excited to announce the Canada Winter Games Funding Program for the Summer of 2026. The Canada Winter Games is coming quickly and the summer of 2026 needs to be used to level up. The trails for the 2027 Alberta Canada Winter Games will be in September 2026.
Judo Alberta recommends that clubs have a budget to help with the funding of your Canada Winter Games athletes for the summer of 2026.
Judo Alberta can make modifications to the CWG Summer Programs as details/information/final costs are finalized. (We do not have all of the information/technical packages/flight cost/etc, for the summer of 2026 at this time. )
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have athletes born in the 2009 to 2012, they need to have start to compete at Judo Canada Events. Judo Alberta will ONLY be looking at the advanced divisions results for the Summer Funding criteria and the 2027 Canada Winter Games Selection Criteria. Athletes need to compete and score points against athletes that they will compete against at the 2027 CWG. (Novice / Intermediate U16/U18 results / divisions will not be considered)
Montreal Tour $400.00 x 14 athletes; Approx. event cost $1,200.00 to $1,400.00
Sask Camp: $150.00 x 14; athletes; Approx. event cost $400.00
International Event: $900.00 x 14 athletes; Approx. event cost $2,800 to $3,200.00 (Europe)
To receive Judo Alberta CWG funding athletes are expected to attend two of the three training camps. If possible, Judo Alberta would like athletes to attend all three June/July training camps.
Minimum requirements for self-funded athletes 2 x U16 Gold medalist at Canadian Tour Events or U18 Gold in the 2025/2026 Canadian Tour Events/Season.
Funding Protocol: Judo Alberta use the below chart to identify the top 7 male and top 7 female athletes across all weight divisions. It is possible to have multiple athletes from the same weight division selected. Funding will go to the next person inline if athletes turn down their selection

Athletes must win 1 match to receive points in advanced U16 / U18 divisions
Divisions with no athletes will be credited 50% 1st place points; if they enter a higher weight division, they will be credited with 100% of the points if they win a medal

All candidates for Competitive and Technical stream must enter their application into the on-line system https://judocanada.org/grading/ no LATER than October 18, 2025.
Candidates should obtain their head instructor’s approval before making the application. Both have a responsibility to ensure the information entered is accurate and verified. Do not claim for ineligible tournaments or for partial years.
Shodan candidates have the responsibility of ensuring their ikkyu (brown belt) registration date agrees with the Judo Alberta registrar’s records (as evidenced by the Judo Alberta Certificate of Promotion). Contact the Judo Alberta Registrar if any questions. All Shodan candidates (including Competitive Stream) must do a formal exam.
Judo Alberta will be holding an NCCP Dojo Instructor course on Oct 4-5, 2025, in Edmonton.
The “Instructor” course provides the participant with knowledge to teach the technical, physical, mental, social and other aspects of judo. The course prepares the participant to be a club instructor and be responsible for providing judoka with the basic physical literacy skills with emphasis on children under the age of 14, judo skills as described in the Judo Canada syllabus, and to introduce young judoka to competition.
Prerequisites:
Minimum age of 18.
Minimum rank of brown belt with a working knowledge of the judo techniques included in the Judo Canada kyu syllabus.
OR equivalent if such checks are required by the Province/Territory. In cases where the Sterling agency is not used for this service, results of the background check must be communicated to Judo Canada to NCCP@judocanada.org by the individual coaches or P/T offices.
The Backcheck is required only if the check done for the DA was done more than 3 years earlier.
Successful online completion of a “Respect in Sport for the activity leader” e-learning module available at https://judo-canada-al.respectgroupinc.com/ for all candidates who did not complete this module in the past
