The Hokkaido Cup was given to Judo Alberta in 1982 by the Governor of Hokkaido Prefecture to celebrate the exchange of coaches in various sports between Hokkaido and Alberta. The award is to formally recognize the dedication, achievements, leadership and abilities of those
individuals who have who have demonstrated a real and substantial contribution to the Sport of Judo in the Province of Alberta.
The general criteria are:
- Significant and outstanding contribution to the development of Judo in Alberta.
- A minimum of 30 years as a regular member of Judo Alberta.
- As a Builder, must have rendered exceptional service to Judo Alberta, whether as an administrator, referee or coach.
- As an Athlete, must have achieved exceptional results in Provincial, National and International competition.
