OPEN HOUSE AT THE DOJO!

Airdrie Judo Club

Hello everyone,
The Airdrie Judo club has been very busy over this summer doing renovations on the dojo, and we are finally ready to show it off. Come and join us as we host our open house, to celebrate the beginning of our next chapter as a club and the renovations we have worked so hard on!

Inter- Provincial Training Camp: Vernon, BC – September 30, 2016 to October 02, 2016

This will be an excellent training camp to prepare for the fall competition season. This camp will feature former Olympic/World Championship medalist Ugo Legrand from France as the guest coach. The training camp is a point-able event in the selection for the 2017 Elite Nationals and 2017 Open Nationals qualifications/eligibility for the Alberta Team.

Elite Athlete Funding Announcement

The Judo Alberta coaching staff has released the Elite Athlete funding application.

This application is for funding for Judo Alberta/ Judo Canada events that have taken or will take place between: April 02, 2016 to August 31, 2016

Priority:

A) Athletes Selected by Judo Canada to participate in International Events
B) International Events recognized by Judo Canada (National Team Handbook) & Judo Canada RTC International Competitions/Tours
C) National Point Events and Training Camps
D) Special Provincial Training Camps

The elite athlete funding is for athletes in age divisions U18, U21, and Senior that are travelling out of province for tournaments or training camps at a national or international level.

The Judo Alberta coaching staff is allocating $2,600.00 towards this part of the season for elite level athletes. The whole funds may or may not be completely used depending on the number of applicants and events.

Applying for this funding does not guarantee that funds will be issued to you. The coaching staff are looking for athletes that have shown dedication to their own judo training, tournament participation, and training camp participation. Also the coaching staff are looking for athletes that are planning for future goals in the sport. Please see a list of example tournaments that we will fund on the Elite athlete funding policy.

The coaching staff do want the athletes to have full support from their personal coach/ head sensei/club before applying for funds.

• Please supply receipts with the application – this will expedite the processing of the funds

The deadline to apply for this round of funding is August 16, 2016

• Events past the August 16, 2016 deadline will be eligible

For the season starting on September 1, 2016 and ending on August 31, 2017, the following membership structure and fees will apply in Judo:

Judo Alberta is now accepting bids to host 2017 Provincial Championships

Judo Alberta is now accepting bids for the 2017 Provincial Championships. If you are interested in hosting, please provide the following information to the Judo Alberta office in electronic form (via email c/o Nate MacLellan, Executive Director, judo@judoalberta.com) no later than Friday July 15, 2016.

To be included is the following information:

• Club information for bidding club
• Potential Venue information (must have a minimum 3 mat areas plus a warmup area)
• Seating capacity
• Number of people available to volunteer and assist in running event
• A list of previous events that your club has hosted
• Dates interested in hosting (Jan 28th or Feb 11th, 2017)
• Host hotel information
• Budget for event
• Any additional information that might be helpful for the Executive Committee to make an informed decision

Judo Alberta will supply medals for the competition.

Judo Alberta will also supply all the equipment for the competition, if required. Transportation costs, if required, of the equipment will be billed to the host club.

Judo Alberta Elite Athlete Funding Recipients

The Judo Alberta Coaching Committee would like to congratulate the following athletes who have been granted athlete funding. Funding is based on performance and results, commitment to training, participation in National or International events and financial need.

EAF 2016

These athletes applied for the second round of elite athlete funding for events participated in from December 14, 2015 to April 16, 2016. The next round of funding will be announced in August, 2016 for competitions and training camps participated in between April 17- August 01, 2016

Athletes that have received funding this round must fill out an athlete expense claim form attach their invoices from competitions/ training camp and hand it into Garry Yamashita to receive their funding.
