Go Fund Me Campaign for Kyra Edgson

Kyra Edgson, age 14, of Prince George Judo Club was diagnosed a few weeks ago with AML (Acute Myeloid Leukaemia) which normally targets people over 65 years old. Kyra’s mom Katie Edgson is one of the main senseis at Prince George Judo Club and an active referee in BC and Canada. Kyra and her family need our help as they are looking at 8 or more months at BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver to support Kyra. 2018 Christa Deguchi Clinic

Judo Canada, Judo Alberta and the Lethbridge Judo Club is bringing 2018 World Judo Championships Bronze Medalist Christa Deguchi to Alberta for a visit/clinic. Judo Alberta and the Lethbridge Judo Club/RTC invite you to attend the sessions from December 19-December 22, 2018. This is a great opportunity for Judo Alberta athletes/coaches to learn from, meet and do randori with one of the best athletes in the world. There is no charge to the clinic.

Elite Athlete Funding Announcement

The Judo Alberta Coaching Committee would like to congratulate the following athletes who have been granted elite athlete funding:

Shianne Gronen U21 World Championships & Dominican Republic  $      1,400.00
Joel Demaere U21 World Championships  $      1,000.00
Hana Kuno Dominican Republic  $         400.00

 

Funding is based on performance, results, commitment to training, participation in National or International events and financial need. The coach committee nominated these athletes for the first round of elite athlete funding for costs incurred from events participated in from September 2018 to December 2018.

The next round of funding will be announced in April 2018 for competitions and training camps participated in between– January 2019 to April 2019

Provincial Referee Development Grant

Provincial Referee Development Grant

Purpose:

To encourage members to pursuit refereeing. Two grants will be available in the amount of $250 each, one for southern Alberta and one for northern Alberta.

Grant Timeline:

September 1, 2018 and May 31, 2019

Provincial Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be U16 and up.
  • Minimum green belt or higher.
  • Must be a member in good standing with Judo Alberta.
  • Must have officiated two (2) regional tournaments (ex: Lethbridge or EYJS monthly)
  • Must pass their provincial C referee examination
  • Must have officiated a minimum three (3) of the following tournaments in the U14 categories and below:
    • Red Deer tournament
    • U of A
    • Rocky Mountain
    • Florence Senda
    • Katsuta Cup
    • Provincials

 

If there are more than one candidate in an area, the referee committee will choose the winner based on ability.
