Subject: Judo Alberta 2026 CWG Summer Program Funding Date: October 10, 2025

Judo Alberta is excited to announce the Canada Winter Games Funding Program for the Summer of 2026. The Canada Winter Games is coming quickly and the summer of 2026 needs to be used to level up. The trails for the 2027 Alberta Canada Winter Games will be in September 2026.

Judo Alberta recommends that clubs have a budget to help with the funding of your Canada Winter Games athletes for the summer of 2026.

Judo Alberta can make modifications to the CWG Summer Programs as details/information/final costs are finalized. (We do not have all of the information/technical packages/flight cost/etc, for the summer of 2026 at this time. )

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have athletes born in the 2009 to 2012, they need to have start to compete at Judo Canada Events. Judo Alberta will ONLY be looking at the advanced divisions results for the Summer Funding criteria and the 2027 Canada Winter Games Selection Criteria. Athletes need to compete and score points against athletes that they will compete against at the 2027 CWG. (Novice / Intermediate U16/U18 results / divisions will not be considered)

Judo Alberta Fairness and Safety in Sport Policy Announcement

Judo Alberta Fairness and Safety in Sport Policy Announcement

Dear Judo Alberta Members and Judoka,

We are writing to inform you of a new policy adopted by Judo Alberta in response to the Fairness and Safety in Sport Act (formerly Bill 29), recently enacted by the Government of Alberta.

Effective September 1, 2025, Judo Alberta has implemented a Fairness and Safety in Sport Policy that applies to events falling under Judo Alberta’s direct jurisdiction and are competitive in nature.

This policy is designed to:

  • Protect the integrity of female-only competitions, ensuring that women and girls have the opportunity to compete in divisions designated for biological females.
  • Ensure compliance with Alberta’s legislation and demonstrate our continued commitment to a safe, respectful, and inclusive sport environment.

Local judo clubs operating independently (including recreational programs, in-house tournaments, and non-sanctioned events) will continue to set their own eligibility criteria.

We understand this is a sensitive and evolving area, and we are committed to working with athletes, families, and clubs to provide clarity and support, while respecting privacy and dignity in all conversations and decisions.

You can find the full policy and FAQ’s on our website here. Resources published by the Government of Alberta are also available here.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss the policy further, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for your continued support in fostering a judo community that is both fair and welcoming.
