{"id":7980,"date":"2025-09-02T17:11:59","date_gmt":"2025-09-02T17:11:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/judoalberta.com\/?p=7980"},"modified":"2025-09-02T17:13:06","modified_gmt":"2025-09-02T17:13:06","slug":"judo-alberta-fairness-and-safety-in-sport-policy-announcement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/judoalberta.com\/index.php\/judo-alberta-fairness-and-safety-in-sport-policy-announcement\/","title":{"rendered":"Judo Alberta Fairness and Safety in Sport Policy Announcement"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Dear Judo Alberta Members and Judoka,<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are writing to inform you of a new policy adopted by Judo Alberta in response to the <em>Fairness and Safety in Sport Act<\/em> (formerly Bill 29), recently enacted by the Government of Alberta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Effective September 1, 2025,<\/strong> Judo Alberta has implemented a <em>Fairness and Safety in Sport Policy<\/em> that applies to events falling under Judo Alberta\u2019s direct jurisdiction and are competitive in nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This policy is designed to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Protect the integrity of female-only competitions, ensuring that women and girls have the opportunity to compete in divisions designated for biological females.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure compliance with Alberta\u2019s legislation and demonstrate our continued commitment to a safe, respectful, and inclusive sport environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Local judo clubs operating independently (including recreational programs, in-house tournaments, and non-sanctioned events) will continue to set their own eligibility criteria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We understand this is a sensitive and evolving area, and we are committed to working with athletes, families, and clubs to provide clarity and support, while respecting privacy and dignity in all conversations and decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can find the full policy and FAQ\u2019s on our website <a href=\"https:\/\/judoalberta.com\/index.php\/policies-procedures\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here<\/a>.
