This medal is a commemorative medal created to mark the 70th\nanniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II\u2019s accession to the Throne as\nQueen of Canada. The recipients of this medal are individuals who have made\nsignificant sports contributions to the province and have helped build their\nsport to what it is today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congratulations to Joe Meli,\nAllan Sattin, Michael Tamura, and Dr. Garry Yamashita.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"907\" height=\"680\" src=\"https:\/\/judoalberta.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Joe-Meli.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6972\" srcset=\"https:\/\/judoalberta.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Joe-Meli.jpg 907w, https:\/\/judoalberta.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Joe-Meli-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/judoalberta.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Joe-Meli-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 907px) 100vw, 907px\" \/><figcaption>Joe Meli<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Joe\nMeli<\/strong>\u2019s contribution to sports in\nAlberta has been ongoing since he was a teenager. Mr. Meli\u2019s record of\nachievement in Judo include being a National Team member and as an Olympic Team\nmember. He is one of only 4 Judo Alberta members, and the first athlete,\ninducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame. Mr. Meli has contributed to the\ndevelopment of Judo in Alberta by starting a Judo club at Lethbridge Community\nCollege and by continuing to support Judo athletes as the Chair of the Judo\nAlberta Grading Committee, a committee that tests and passes Judo athletes to\nand within the black belt ranks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"421\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/judoalberta.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Allan-Sattin.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6973\" srcset=\"https:\/\/judoalberta.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Allan-Sattin.jpg 421w, https:\/\/judoalberta.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Allan-Sattin-219x300.jpg 219w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 421px) 100vw, 421px\" \/><figcaption>Allan Sattin<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Allan\nSattin<\/strong> has been involved in the Sport\nof Judo in Alberta since 1965 as an athlete, coach, instructor, referee and\nevent organizer.&nbsp; Allan\u2019s volunteerism\nhas led him to sit as president for Judo Alberta and Judo Canada.&nbsp; On the international level, Mr. Sattin is the\nChair of the Legal Committee of the Panamerican Judo Confederation, which is\nthe governing body for Judo in the Americas. Mr. Sattin was appointed by the\nFederal Minister of State (Sport) to the Board of Directors of the Sport\nDispute Resolution Centre of Canada (SDRCC) and later to the position of Chair\nof the SDRCC. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/judoalberta.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Michael-Tamura-rotated.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6974\" srcset=\"https:\/\/judoalberta.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Michael-Tamura-rotated.jpeg 640w, https:\/\/judoalberta.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Michael-Tamura-300x225.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption>Michael Tamura<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Michael\nTamura<\/strong> has been involved with Judo\nsince 1975 as an athlete, coach, administrator, and volunteer. He has been a\nmember of the Lethbridge Kyodokan Judo Club as Head Sensei and was involved\nwith bringing the National Regional Training Center to Lethbridge. Michael also\nhas a long history of volunteerism including serving as the president of Judo\nAlberta, current president of Judo Canada, and is one of only two Canadians\never appointed to the International Judo Federation Executive Committee. Since\n2015, he has been the General Secretary for the Pan American Judo Confederation\nand have been on the Executive since 2013. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"357\" height=\"554\" src=\"https:\/\/judoalberta.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Garry-Yamashita.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6975\" srcset=\"https:\/\/judoalberta.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Garry-Yamashita.jpg 357w, https:\/\/judoalberta.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/Garry-Yamashita-193x300.jpg 193w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 357px) 100vw, 357px\" \/><figcaption>Garry Yamashita<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dr.\nGarry Yamashita<\/strong> has had an\noutstanding career in the sport of Judo both provincially and nationally as a\nreferee, administrator, coach, teacher, and volunteer. With over 50 years of\njudo experience, Dr. Yamashita has taught judoka all over the province,\nincluding at the University of Alberta Judo Club and Hiro\u2019s Judo Club. From\n2003-2009 he was the President of Judo Alberta and during that same period, he\nsat on the Judo Canada Board of Governors and in 2011 he was elected to the\nJudo Canada Board of Directors for the Prairie Region. Dr. Yamashita has been a\nvaluable member of the Provincial and National Grading Committees. He has\nconducted numerous technical clinics and training camps to a wide range of\nathletes, coaches, and instructors as preparation for their black belt\nevaluations as well as for competitive development.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congratulations\nto Joe, Allan, Michael, and Garry on this tremendous recognition for all that\nyou have done for the sport of Judo.
