{"id":5901,"date":"2021-02-08T21:18:00","date_gmt":"2021-02-08T21:18:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.judoalberta.com\/?p=5901"},"modified":"2021-07-07T16:42:23","modified_gmt":"2021-07-07T16:42:23","slug":"return-to-judo-guidelines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/judoalberta.com\/index.php\/return-to-judo-guidelines\/","title":{"rendered":"Return to Judo Guidelines (Updated February 8, 2021)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Hello Judo Alberta Members, <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Government of Alberta has lifted some Covid-19 restrictions effective <strong>February 8<sup>th<\/sup><\/strong> that allows judo to resume in some capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result, Judo clubs will be able to offer in person one-on-one training (all athletes) and &#8220;mini&#8221; group training (only for athletes 18 years of age and younger) however there are some strict measures that must be followed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To ensure the safety of our membership we have made updates (in bold text) to section 4.1 in the Return to Judo Guidelines:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4.1 Private Training Sessions (Updated February 2, 2021):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Private Individual\nSessions:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Athlete can participate in individual\nconditioning and individual judo exercises led by a coach<\/li><li>Athlete can participate in strength training\nsessions led by a coach at the dojo<\/li><li>The instructor assigns one area per participant\n(1 person\/8m2). This will become their designated training space throughout the\nsession. <\/li><li>Participants bow with 3 metres physical\ndistancing or in their designated area (1 person\/8m2)<\/li><li><strong>Sessions must be scheduled by appointment. No drop-in or\ngroups allowed. (Amended Feb 2, 2021)<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Coaches must wear a mask during the session; participants are\nnot required to wear a mask during exercise. (Amended Feb 2, 2021)<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>More than one coach and client \u2018pair\u2019 (ex: 3 athletes and 3\ncoaches) are allowed into the facility so long as: (Amended Feb 2, 2021)<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Each coach and\nclient stays 3 metres away from all other trainers and clients at all times,\nincluding in entryways and exits.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Each coach can only\ninteract with their assigned client, and each client can only interact with\ntheir assigned coach.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>No interaction\nbetween clients or between coaches is allowed.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>No \u2018cycling\nthrough\u2019 multiple coaches as in circuit training.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Exercises Permitted:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>These sessions can involve judo elastics, foot\nwork, judo exercises, hops, ropes, shadow uchi-komi<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Private\nMulti-Person Sessions (Household Members Only):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Athletes who have multiple people in a single\nhousehold can participate in judo training led by a coach.<\/li><li>Athletes who have multiple people in a single\nhousehold can participate in strength training sessions led by a coach at the\ndojo.<\/li><li>The instructor assigns one area per participant\n(1 person\/8m2). This will become their designated training space throughout the\nsession. <\/li><li>Participants bow with 3 metres physical\ndistancing or in their designated area (1 person\/8m2)<\/li><li><strong>Sessions must be scheduled by appointment. (Maximum group size is 10\npeople, including the coach)<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Athletes 18 years of age and younger can participate in group\nstrength training sessions led by a coach at the dojo (Maximum group size is 10\npeople, including the coach)<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Group Options:<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Single Athlete:<\/strong> 9 athletes with 1 coach physically distanced (3m). Non-contact\nactivities only.<\/li><li><strong>Family Practice:<\/strong> Athletes from the same family household can participate in\ncontact activities. (Ex: 3 groups of 2 from a same family, 1 group of 3 from\nthe same family and a coach. All groups are physically distanced from each\nother. Family members only have contact with their family. <\/li><li><strong>Individual Sessions<\/strong>: Individual sessions are still able to continue with a\ncoach.<\/li><li>The instructor assigns one area per participant\nwhere 3m safe distancing can be met. This will become their designated training\nspace throughout the session. <\/li><li>Participants bow with 3 metres physical\ndistancing or in their designated area.<\/li><li><strong>Sessions must be scheduled by appointment. No drop-in or\ngroups allowed. (Amended Feb 2, 2021)<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Coaches must wear a mask during the session; participants are\nnot required to wear a mask during exercise. (Amended Feb 2, 2021)<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>More than one group (Ex. 2 groups of 10 people) is allowed\ninto the facility at the same time so long as: (Amended Feb 8, 2021)<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>The facility has\nenough space to maintain safe 3m distancing at all times (Ex. 10 people per mat\narea). If the dojo cannot support this capacity, group sizes must be reduced to\nmeet a safe 3m distancing.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Each coach and\nclient stays 3 metres away from all other trainers and clients at all times,\nincluding in entryways and exits.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Each coach can only\ninteract with their assigned client(s), and each client can only interact with\ntheir assigned coach.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Physical interaction\nbetween clients, coaches or groups is NOT permitted. Only household family\nmembers are permitted to physically interact with each other. <\/strong><\/li><li><strong>No \u2018cycling\nthrough\u2019 multiple coaches as in circuit training.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Exercises Permitted (With\nmembers from the same household):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The sessions can involve crash mats, uchi-komi,\ntechnical development, ne-waza technique, drilling, kumi-kata training,\nrandori.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Length of Private\nJudo Sessions:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>1 Hour = 45-minute training session\/ 15-minute\ncleaning transition <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>All sanitization\nand screening protocols outlined in Phase 4 are enforced.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A detailed plan of\nactivities must be included in the club Return to Judo guidelines and submitted\nto the Judo Alberta Office.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information on the provincial update please\nvisit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alberta.ca\/enhanced-public-health-measures.aspx#restrictions\">https:\/\/www.alberta.ca\/enhanced-public-health-measures.aspx#restrictions<\/a>\nfor more details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Operate at Your Comfort Level<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>*It is important to note that clubs can operate in any phase currently permitted by Judo Alberta. Some clubs may wish to only do 1 on 1 sessions instead of the mini group sessions.
